Honeybees tell each other where flowers are with a special “dance”. Back at the hive, a bee moves in a figure of eight, and the angle of the dance shows the direction relative to the Sun.
The length of the dance shows the distance: the longer the dance, the farther away the flowers are. Scientists first described this behaviour in detail in the mid-20th century.
